Reassembly of the Ambidextrous OptiFitĀ® Thumb Safety:
- Make certain that the firearm is unloaded.
- Fully cock the hammer.
- Apply antisieze to the threads and bulb end (1 deg taper per side
- the end (largest) diameter is approximately .080") of the 4-40 special
set screw and to the male/female ends of the respective safeties sides.
- Insert the bulb end of the special 4-40 set screw in the hole located
in the center of the male fingers of the left side safety.
- If the grip safety has been removed be sure that it is placed in position
now.
- Grip the serrations and insert the .154 dia. pin into the frame.
- Line up the boss on the rear of the safety with the top of the "cloverleaf"
hole in the frame and insert (up or safety on position).
- Rotate the left side safety fully counterclockwise (down or off position)
- Insert the .050 allen wrench in the hole in the right side safety.
- Grip the right side safety serrations and insert the .154 dia pin
into the frame while guiding the ,050 allen wrench into the hex of the
special 4-40 set screw. Align the "paddle " on the right side with the
"paddle " on the left side. The male straight "square box" of the left
side will fit into the female "square funnel" on the right side. There
is a one (1) degree taper per side in the female funnel.
- While squeezing the left and right side safeties together turn the
allen wrench "Counterclockwise".
- It may be necessary to turn "Counterclockwise" one quarter turn (1/4)
and then tap or squeeze the two sides together. Repeat as necessary
until the left and right sides are tight against the frame.
- Turn "Counterclockwise" until final tightness has been reached.
- The locking system operates in a mechanical fashion similar to Chinese
Handcuffs (a/k/a Chinese "finger traps") and does not require the use
of any form of locking compound.
